Summer Storm Season in the Falls

The beginning of Summer means warm sunny days and sometimes severe stormy nights.  We've put together some easy prepping ideas to prevent storm damage and some local resources to help with the aftermath.

Trim trees and clear away limbs to reduce the chances of loose limbs and brush damaging a home’s exterior including breaking windows.

Check gutters and clear debris to prevent water damage by having downspouts drain away from your home.

Secure fences
to help prevent them from being blown down or thrown against the house by heavy winds.

Secure furniture to prevent heavy winds from causing damage to patio furniture and outdoor play equipment. Put smaller items such as cushions and planters inside the house or garage.

Create a basic emergency kit that includes:
  • Water
  • Food
  • Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
  • Hand-crank flashlight
  • First aid kit

Create a family emergency plan including a designated meetup place in case you are separated when a storm hits and your home is unsafe to return to.  Examples include a local school, workplace, or landmark.

Know your insurance policy and understand your coverage.  Thinking of shopping for new coverage? Barnard Insurance Group is based locally in Wichita Falls and represents multiple insurance companies so they're able to compare coverage and prices to get you the greatest value possible.

Consider local experts to help put the pieces back together when dealing with the aftermath and the unavoidable consequences of a storm such as hail and wind damaged roofs.  Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company has been around since 1891 and you'll have peace of mind knowing they will do quality work to get your home put back together.
